Santa Bárbara is the capital of the province and the municipality of Samaná. It is located on the southern coast of the peninsula, in the Samaná Bay.

Santa Bárbara is the capital of the province and the municipality of Samaná. It is located on the southern coast of the peninsula, in the Samaná Bay.

Santa Bárbara of Samaná posses the international airport of “Arroyo Barril” and is connected to Las Galeras, Las Terrenas and Sanchez through an easily accessible highways. It has a dock across the bay from where the ferry departs to Sabana de la Mar, bus companies like  Metro and Caribe Tours,have terminals in Samana giving a direct access to tourists.

From here visitors can visit the National Park of Los Haitises, Cayo Levantado Island and from January to April is the Center for whale watching.

The tourism in Santa Bárbara of Samaná is hardly present in other Caribbean destinations: A wide variety in a uniform and reduced geographical framework.

The most visited attractions on the peninsula are the Salto Rio Los Cocos, Salto del Limón, El Valle beach,  Rincon bay and Fronton region.
